Probe launched into councillor expenses
A fresh row has broken out over mileage claims made by members of Erewash Borough Council — with the chief executive drafted in to investigate.
Erewash Labour group have raised concerns over claims to cover travel expenses.
An internal investigation has now been launched at the Long Eaton and Ilkeston-based authority by chief executive Jeremy Jaroszek.
But Cllr Alex Phillips, leader of the Labour group at Erewash, has said anyone found to have made inappropriate claims should resign.
Cllr Phillips also says he has ‘scrutinised’ some claim forms.
Chief executive Mr Jaroszek confirmed that he is investigating the claims.
He said: “The issue of members’ allowances has been raised at both full council and private meetings in recent weeks.
“I can confirm that I am looking into the matters raised as a result of this.
“It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this stage.”
