HMRC cuts diesel advisory fuel rates (AFR’s)

fuel-pumpHer Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has announced that they will reduce two out of the three diesel Advisory Fuel Rates (AFRs).

In its quarterly review, HMRC calculated AFRs for the next three months based on petrol and diesel prices as of August 19 from the Department for Energy and Climate Change and the LPG UK average price from the AA website in July.

As a result, it has left all AFRs unchanged apart from the diesel rates for cars with an engine size of 1600cc or less and between 1601cc and 2000cc. They fall from 12p to 11p and 14p to 13p respectively.

The latest rates, which organisations use to reimburse drivers for fuel used on business journeys, take effect from Monday (September 1)until further notice. For 1 month from the date of change, employers may use either the previous or new current rates, as they choose. Employers may therefore make or require supplementary payments if they so wish, but are under no obligation to do either
