A couple of months ago I sat down with one of our digital marketing apprentices, Alice Wilson to talk through some of our ideas and strategies for the coming weeks. Alice had seen all the videos that we had done before and said she had an idea for another one. Alice explained the concept, and I liked it, so said great let’s do it then, do you think you can do it if I point you in the right direction?
What I love about working with Alice is her positivity. She loves a challenge and likes to try
anything, so her response was confident as expected. “Yes, OK, I will give it a go. I have never done anything like this, but I would like to try.” I pointed Alice in the right direction and explained we could use Adobe After Effects for the animation and I signed her on to a training course with Udemy. We agreed we could get a voice over from fiverr.com (we all have Midlands and kiwi accents here, no one understands us) and we could get music, etc. from on of the online resources. First things first though we needed to come up with a script
Alice set about with the script, and after a few iterations we could storyboard the video and sent the script off for the voice over.
To be frank, the first attempt was good but not good enough, so I gave my feedback and explained what needed to be done to make it better. I also helped Alice understand that working for a company is a bit different to your course work. With course work, you do the best you can, and you hand it in, and that’s it. With something like this we keep going and refining until it’s as good as it can be, without being too pedantic.
Anyway. I think for the first attempt at the animated video she has knocked it out the park. She has learnt a new skill, and she has really enjoyed it along the way. Alice has said “creating the video has allowed me to gain more confidence with the software and has helped me gain knowledge. I can’t wait to do another one in a fraction of the time it has taken to do this one. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Learning yourself with a goal and some trial and error is the best way!” Watch this space to see what she comes up with next!
